“I have the sound bar hooked up to my computer's sound card via optical cable and there is a 1/2 sec delay before it starts to play audio (NOT a syncing issue- just misses the first 1/2 second or so). AUX/RCA hookups have no delay. Any ideas why?”

The delay you are getting with the optical cable may be due to the complexity of decoding the signal. Since this is not a sync/latency problem, I would just ignore the lost 1/2 second of audio.
