Your insignia speakers are not a microphone. You can only use them to hear your grandchildrens voices. For them to hear you, you must speak into a microphone of some sort. Sometimes computers have them built in, sometimes they don't. Hope that helps! Cheers!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Thats because they are speakers, not a microphone. YOu need a microphone plugged into your computer for them to hear your voices.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Make sure you are plugging then into the speaker port and not the microphone port.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You will also need a microphone. Speakers only do sound output. Headphones with extra volume and equipped with a microphone are also an option but getting a stand alone would probably be your most inexpensive option.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To make this work, you need two things, a microphone and a place to plug in the speakers into the computer. If you are able to Skype without the Insignia speakers before, then you likely already have a built-in microphone and are listening through the computer's built in speaker? Either way, I suspect you are just plugging these speakers into the wrong spot in the computer and are cutting off the communications path. Maybe you are plugging them into a headphones jacks in the front of the computer and not a speaker jack? Look at the back of the computer where the cables connect and look for 4 or 5 holes of different colors all in a row that might be the same size to plug in the speakers. You'll have to look closely at these jacks and see which one is the OUT jack. They should be identified with something like MIC, IN, OUT, etc. Sometimes they use a tiny picture of a microphone, a speaker and other pictures (stamped into the metal) to identify these holes. These holes on the back of the computer are bright colors, pink, green, light brown, etc) which are supposed to match the colors of the jack that you want to plug in. Sometimes manufacturers don't color code their jack plugs and I don't know if the Insignia jacks are colored anything other than black. Black is not one of the colors, so you will need to try to identify the hole with a picture of a speaker or OUT next to it and try to plug your speakers in here. If it squeals, turn down the volume and try again. I hope this helps.
