I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and used this enclosure to change the drive in the computer to a solid state drive. The enclosure is now holding the old drive from the computer and it works fine. Once you put the drive in the enclosure, you can reformat it to use as an external hard drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not sure if you were trying to use this hard drive in the enclosure as a boot drive it should be possible I have done the same when you start up your Mac you'll have to hold down the option key I believe it will let you give you a choice of what drives to select if that drive in the enclosure is plugged in and it should show up to boot off of.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No as long as your drive is SATA you are fine. It will be plug and play. How ever done forget to go to settings and change your boot drive priority.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The year of your computer doesn't matter. This fits your standard laptop hard drive which is 2.5". I used this with a 2012 13" MacBook Pro and it works perfectly!
