A:AnswerI used 16 gauge for the new wires I ran. I installed one speaker on wire that had been installed years ago and was smaller...not sure what gauge it was. Both work fine.
A:AnswerAside from the obvious "turn down the music", you could try to raise the speakers off the floor. Either hang them on the wall, use a suspended mount (remember macrame?) or even use a foam pad beneath them. There are also spiked feet available from speaker shops. What you are trying to do is de-couple the bass from the floor. Apartment living is a challenge to a good stereo, for sure!
