“I would like to know what is the normal temperature variation on this. We just got ours setup and the temp rises about 20 degrees then cools back down the rises 20 degrees again then cools back down to set temp. Does this about twice a day. This normal?”

Hi Shaun. We had the same concern. I set the temp to -2 and it has stayed between -2 and -4. It hasn't had the temperature swings when I had it set to zero.
