2D indicates the messaging nubs move up/down and side to side. 3D adds in extra depth by moving more deeply “out” into the body. Generally, other than cost, you should consider 2D if you prefer a lighter message or 3D if want something that can get deeper tissue.

I did have to lay some cushions in it because the message rollers were doing a beating on me. The cushions added a much needed padding to make the message just right. Another thing the foot message is a little rough on my feet, but my son loves it. I purchased it for $2499, but ending up paying $999 after I notice a black friday sale.
