It will work. However, keep in mind that the freezer will work overtime to keep food frozen which can reduce the life of the unit. Also, condensation will form during high temperatures.

Shade is nice for animals and people but the freezer will be working much harder to maintain a temperature low enough to support whatever you'll be keeping in there. I don't keep mine too close to the tiny, sliding- glass, basement window which is 8' above & 12" or so away from the cement wall where it "lives"' due to hot summers in Boston. I don't think it's a great idea to put it on a balcony, either. I'm assuming you mean an upper balcony and not a front or back porch. It may be small per cu ft. but it's still heavy when empty, heavier when full. Then there's the frost issue which adds weight. If it overloads & you trip a circuit breaker, if everything thaws and melts , the neighbors below will get soaked, then you'll have a new set of problems to deal with in addition to ruined food...you'll be looking at property damage to your and the neighbors stuff, insurance claims w/deductibles, inevitable rate increases, not to mention strained relationships with the neighbor. Does anyone disagree with me ? Your Pal, Prophet of Doom.
