• It's not an issue of compatibility; it is an issue of interface. If the older Dell MB has an IDE interface and the newer one is SATA, you will not be able to use it.

• I'm not sure what you me,an. Aslong as the HDD from your previous computer was not damaged, then you can use the enclosure and connect it to your older computer without issues.
