That is exactly what I did. Need to get data off of a hard drive from a old broken PC. Worked great. Only issue was file permissions and ownership needed to be tweaked once the drive was mounted on the new PC via the USB enclosure.

If the Desktop Hard Drive from your Dell is the Operating System drive and you put it in this enclosure, it will simply treat it like any other external drive. There is an outside possibility that if the new computer that you are booting from ( a laptop with this drive connected via USB for example ) is set in its BIOS to boot from USB, you may run into problems as the old version of Windows on the Dell Hard Drive wont recognize anything on the new computer and try to adjust. This would be rare as most off the shelf computers dont allow BIOS changes but something to be aware of. Normally the Dell drive in this enclosure would just show up as a normal external drive with all the files from your old computer including your photos and music folders.

Please try again later.This is just a case, it doesn't have any internal memory. so no. but if you remove your hdd and place in this enclosure then you'll have the pics with you, or you can place any other desktop hdd no bigger than 3.25" and download your pictures to it. This product is good for if you have an old working hdd you want to make into an external hdd.
