“If my modem requires 12v and 1.5amp will this be too much power? It looks like the plug size that fits is for 3amps? Or will it auto-adjust to give only the 1.5 required? (I don’t want to overpower/blow out my device)”

this would provide the correct voltage but the amperage would be too high, there is another product that looks similar to this that has the exact voltage and amperage that you need, I would recommend asking a staff at the store for one that provides 12 volts at 1.5 amps.
