All of our Air Conditioning units must be vented, they include a window kit in the box.

In a window unit, the cooling coil passes inside air over it and back into the room, while the heat exhaust coil is on the outside. In a portable unit, some of the inside air is passed over the cooling coil, and back into the room as cool air. Other room air is passed over the exhaust coil, and then vented to the outside. IF you feel the outside vent hose, it will be warm to hot. Suggest you do a google search on "refridgeration cycle" if you want to understand how all cooling systems, including refrigerators, small AC units, and central AC work
