“the bolts used in the window slide stick out too much, this causes a ~0.25 inch gap between the window and the slide where air will leak out/in has anyone experienced this issue / fixed it? any help is appreciated, thanks!”

Cardboard and duct tape my friend. You could even keep it simple and layer up the duct tape over the seam and make sure it’s sealed on the edges properly.
