If you are talking about the hose that connects to your window, then, yes, it can be higher than the air conditioner. It only fills with hot air, never any water. If you are talking about the drain for the dehumider function, I don't know because I haven't used that function yet but I think you just hook that up to any container to collect water then discard the water.
