i had same exact question with making the HDMI input activate when i use the direct tv remote. access settings then go to display and sound icon and click on it. then select power on and choose which input you want to select for power to be activated by ur remote for cable box / direct tv etc you will on need the Fire tv remote for streaming channels and other items on home screen
