They absolutely can be removed. Take the back panel off (4 screws). The silver pieces come off the sides like a door panel on a car. Then disconnect the air lines and wiring harness for each side. There are 8 small screws per side underneath the silver panels. Then take 2 larger screws off the front by the foot holds. Lift it out and it comes right off. Super easy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can remove the chair's arms, but you need to be kinda handy and comfortable with tools. It's probably about a half hour job. Here are the steps: -Remove the foot and calf massager, using the reverse of the installation instructions. -Approximately where your calves would be, when sitting in the chair, there are two large, black screws with flat heads on each side. They hold the lower end of each arm in. Remove them. -The back panel of the chair is held by 4 small screws. Remove them, and pull off the back panel. -The two silver plastic strips, at about shoulder level on each side of the chair, are held on by simple pressure clips. Insert a flat head screwdriver into the slot on the back of the strips and wedge them free. Then they simply pull off. Sometimes the metal clips like to pop off when you are doing this. If they do, simply pop them back on. -Once these strips are removed, they expose 13 screws on each side. 12 of these screws (not the back-most one) need to be removed, but be careful. They come in 3 different styles/sizes, so you need to track which ones go to which holes. -Once those screws are off, the side panels are no longer held to the chair, but you need to disconnect the wire and air cables to them. In the back of the chair, where you removed the back panel, at about middle height on each side, are the two air hoses and 1 wire connection. The wire disconnects with a standard clip. The air hoses are tagged with two different color bands (so that you can reconnect them correctly). Disconnecting the air hoses requires pulling out the plastic connector, which does require a fair amount of strength. -Once that's all disconnected, the side panels can simply be lifted off. They are hanging on by a simple piece of metal near the front screws, and a post in a slot on the back. Sometimes it's actually easiest to pull the side panels partly off, before working on disconnecting the air and wires. Reinstalling the arms is just the reverse of the above. The only annoying part is getting all the little screw holes on the side panels lined up. Have a long thin piece of metal, like a nail set or awl is helpful. Also, these screws are just being screwed into cheap plastic. So you need to be careful not to over-tighten.
