Older TVs do radiate a lot of heat both cathode ray (the old picture tube type) or plasma because they use a lot of electricity to produce sound and picture. The new LED/LCD use far less energy. Most are around 40 watts not by any means a source of heat where an old TV might take 200 to 600 watts of power and that is going to give off a lot of heat.
