How do I set up this TV so cable input is default? I don't want to have to select input every time I turn it on. Can it be set up to start in cable mode? My comcast remote allows me to change volume but not select input. I have to keep two remotes around. null

Amended answer: Go to the Home screen with all the content offerings, etc. From the top listed menu selections, scroll to the right and select Settings, then select Display & Sounds. From the menu options listed in a window on the right,scroll down to "Set power on to last input."

Do not press and hold the Home Icon at the top of the Remote. This selection will take you to small, right side menu which does not have this option. (Should be included in next update!)

Don't hit the SETTINGS  button on the remote.  Has a totally different list.

Hit the HOME button & then look for the SETTINGS (gear icon all the way on the right) & select the following:

> Display & Sounds (top right)
> Power Controls 
> Power On menu (4th from the top). 
From there, change the option to “Last Input” and the TV will always go to the last input that was used when it is turned on. 
Had to do it twice on my TV.  Now I only need one remote; not two or use Alexa.

Latest software update has changed system menu. No longer has "Display & Sounds" option, and no "Power" sub-option. Therefore, no "default to last HDMI input" choice. Annoying to have to change to tabletop box (Tivo in my case) to use the TV in the way I want. Therefore, we newer owners need a better answer.

Just had this same issue and you have to turn off the automatic “home” launch. Press the settings button on your tv remote and go to general settings and find your way to the home advanced settings and switch off the setting that says “launch home”

You can set the TV to turn on to the last input used (e.g. cable tv) instead of the home screen. Go to Settings -> System -> Power and select Power On to Last used TV input.

This doesn't default but it powers up on the last input/screen displayed: This works on the Insignia TV.

Use remote to change.
Press "Home" button on remote.
Scroll to "settings" button on screen, (May not need to select it).
scroll down to and select "Display and Sounds".
Select "Power Controls".
Select "Power On".
Scroll to and select "Last Input".
(The comment, "When powering up the TV, start on the last input or channel. This setting allows quick access to the last content source you watched." should appear on the screen.
You're all done.)
Exit. 
Go to and select the "Input" you want to display on start up and turn off the screen/tv. When you power on the display will be where you were when turned off.

we use the ROKU remote but have to use the cable remote to change channels same with my Samsung in recroom

Absolutely nothing on this thread helps with insignia tv’s because their settings does not allow any system controls (only has input, sleep timer, sound, and picture) so I am forced to select input every time. Do not buy an insignia TV for a senior citizen, they will absolutely not understand this.

I thought it was just the Toshiba that didn’t let you set it to cable. This is totally a joke that you always have to have both remotes at all times. This is a simple software fix that manufacturers are too cheap to do. Sorry we bought a new TV.

A row of boxes appears below it.  Select "display and sounds"

Go to "power controls".

Select "last input" and be sure to power down from the HDMI setting.  It will start up on that setting.

I have had trouble with all these suggestions. I could not find any of those options on my tv menus. I have a LG tv. I found this on my own. Use the settings button on your remote go to General, to system, to additional settings,  to Home settings, to home auto launch  and put it  on OFF

On my Hisense TV, I no longer have the option to select which input the TV wakes on after a full power off. It always wakes to the home screen. The home screen often freezes to the point where the remote will not function and wifi will not connect. I have to unplug the power source and wait for the TV to completely reboot, then, and only then will the remote work for selecting any options. This is really frustrating, and I'm not sure if it is from any recent software updates or just the TV is now one year old and is starting to act up. Until recently, I was fairly happy with the Hisense TV but, I think I may go back to Samsung on my next purchase.

I have new Vizio TV. Hit gear icon on remote then goto system settings and select turn on with last input. You can also control how your power light works on that screen. This works on my new 70”.
