I don't know about outside, but our freezer is in the garage, which is not temperature controlled. We live where there's extreme heat and cold and the freezer hasn't had any problems.
Sorry, there was a problem. It is a very nice little freezer and perfect for me and my husband...it would probably be good for a family of 4 too...I tend to like to shop bargains and stock up and a regular top freezer of a refrigerator is just not enough room and if you overfill one of those it will tend to eventually stop cooling on the bottom...big freaking hassle! So this time instead of paying outrageous for a 20+ cu. ft side by side or someone else's used problem, I took my $600 and got a really nice brand new Insignia 18.1 cu.ft top freezer-refrigerator and this 5 cu. ft chest freezer also by Insignia! Had them about a month now and so happy I made this decision as my little rent house suffers from space-deficiency! Only negative is I wish the model with the glass shelving in the refrigerator hadn't been $75 more, because it is hard to stand some things up in those wire shelves, but I have some inexpensive refrigerator shelf liners order that should take care of that problem...the door shelves in this model are SPECTACULAR! Never been a big fan of Best Buy, but this time it was the Best Buy!!!
