If the hose is kinked, bent, or clogged, water may not flow properly and will instead collect in the bucket. Also, check if there’s a plug or cap inside the drain outlet that needs to be removed before attaching the hose—some models include this as a shipping safeguard. Even when using the hose, the bucket must be properly seated in the unit, as a misaligned bucket can trigger the float switch and redirect water into it. Lastly, inspect the float switch inside the bucket to ensure it isn’t stuck in the “full” position, which could also cause the unit to default to bucket mode.
