I have a 1000 sq.ft. basement. If I set mine to 50% it will run continously. It finally stops for 1 - 2 minutes and then runs again for about 10 minutes. I have to set it for 55% or 60% for it to stay off at least as long as it runs. It just does not have the capacity of my previous two 50 pt units.

40% is a very low humidity level for anywhere other than the Western US. You might try 50% and see how that works. Since you didn’t state if this was inside the living area or in a basement or garage, I answered based on the living area.

The lower you set the device the longer it will run, recommend trying 50 - 55 range as a starting point.
