“The User Guide shows "more than 15.7 inches" on the top of the dehumidifier. What is that dimension for? Can I use this in a crawl space that has a 28" clearance to the bottom of the floor joists?”

By my measurements, it is 24 inches high, 16 inches wide, and 12 or 13 inches deep depending on whether or not you install the storage cord wrap on the back of the unit. It would be deeper in measurement if you plan on using a hose for continuous draining mode since the hose hookup is on the back of the unit near the center. Since you plan on using this in a crawl space also be aware the exhaust venting is on the left side and like an air conditioner it puts out quite a bit of heat from that exhaust vent.
