You can reverse it to help clear jams. The switch has 4 positions:  FWD, AUTO, OFF, REV.

The instructions say to try reverse, but this doesn't work really well if you've tried to shred too many sheets at once, and the machine may overheat and turn off. If the shredder is jammed with paper shreds, you have to turn it off, turn the shredder part upside down, and pull out some shreds.

I don't know, yet.  Stick to 2-3 paper sheets as a max.  Give it a rest after 4-5 minutes so it does not overheat.  These tips have been useful in keeping it from jamming in the first place.

Avoid overloading the shredder.  Do not attempt to shred anything over 6 sheets of paper. Forget shredding expired credit cards and cardboard.  This is for light duty only.

Just in case it does jam, I use needle nose pliers to grab whatever is in there to clear it out. I have done it in the past, but, this last time I really did a good job of jamming one up, which is why I ended up getting this one. Like the Insignia very much. Now, I'm being very careful. If you put address label down there, place them in between two pieces of newspaper or any other kind of paper. Do not fold and put them in the shredder. It just takes one time for it to get jammed up.
