Hi Brenda. This transfer cable comes with a software which has to be installed and open on both computers. Your files and folders will appear on it and the transfer must be done through this software. If you have any troubles performing this, you are welcome to give us a call if you prefer, at 877-467-4289. Charles V. - Insignia Products

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Turn on both computers. Plug the cable in to a USB port on each computer. The software will show up as a CD in file explorer. Close explorer and go to "run" (rught click on the windows icon in the bottom right of your screen). Browse to the CD icon. Open it up and run the software (easyfile?). Do this for both computers. You should have a split screen on both monitors showing both file explorers. Open the folder you want to transfer files from (lets say it's in the bottom explorer), highlight the file and copy it (control+c). Open the folder on the second computer and click your mouse to activate that folder. Paste (control+v) in that folder Transfer will start. Go get a coffee. You may want to turn off the sleep settings on both computers since it may interfere with the transfer.
