            Answer

It should. I transfered from XP to 10 and went fine. One note: Your new Windows 10 most likely has One Drive. One Drive is in the cloud so if you want your files on the computer click on My PC.

Unfortunately no, transfer cables, like this one, can only transfer files, not programs. You would need to install those on the new computer.

Ethernet cable to transfer data between two computers   (2 Answers)

Will an ethernet cable transfer data between two computers "as good as" or "better than" a USB2 cable? I am trying to use my old computer hard drive as the back-up storage for my new computer. What is the best cabling set-up for this daily/weekly transfer of data? I can use either cable type. But which is "best?"

It is a matter of preference. Depending on the amount of data needing to be transferred. Price each and choose accordingly. Regards

Yes, cables will work no matter the operating system. It's more of a question if what you are hooking up to it will be compatible with the OS.

                    Answer

I don't believe there is anyway to run the software from the broken computer. The software needs to be installed from the working computer for the OS to recognize it (unless the software you are trying to run is a simple executable).

The is designed for connecting a computer to another computer. It has a small piece of hardware in it which contains a program for file management between two computer. Aside from that extra bit, it is a normal USB cable and can be used as such. Short answer: Yes.
