I purchased the 8qt model. For setting a manual time, press what your cooking, Fish steam, beans/lentils etc. Then when the 20minutes time pops up, press "Time Cook" and the + or - keys for time up & down. The only thing that will not let you change is rice/risotto. For wild rice I use the bean/lentils button & increase to 40 minutes. Hope this helps
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. What I do to increase or decrease time is to choose one of the predetermined menu buttons that closely represents what I’m cooking. After pressing the chosen button I then press the time cook button. The predetermined time will then show on the display and then flash. You simply add or subtract the time you need to the recipe of your choice then press start. Most all of these pressure cookers with presets will work this way. Hope this helps?

I use Meat for meat - a roast, meatballs, etc. (I'm using this function for pork as well. Just follow time frames from recipe. YouTube or the Instant Pot Bible or other cookbooks. Chicken for chicken (i did one chicken recipe already according to manual time frame and it came out good.) I believe soup stew button is also for chili.
