I am working on a PC not a Mac; so if you are using a Mac, I don't know. Maybe, http://www.atpeaz.com/using-unsupported-bluetooth-4-0-usb-dongle-with-os-x/ It came with some steps to get to the download, get it, install it, then use the driver. It was more steps than I am used to (things usually just do all that on their own) but was easier than it looked. http://www.broadcom.com/support/?gid=2

Return it. The USB Bluetooth device does not have fully supported drivers under windows 8. Even though they are claiming Windows 8 validation on their packaging.
