Id buy a cheap refrigerator temp gauge at the grocery store if you want to attempt to verify the approx temp independent of what the fridge indicates. I have the right facing side of mine set at 34 degrees and the beer and soda are cold. Just my two cents.

Use a thermometer and adjust to match the temperature(s) you want.  The cooler's display isn't that accurate.
