“Will this work on a new 40" TV that is only 18.7 pounds? (TV is 39.6 diagonal but only 36" wide) The newer TV's are so light it seems like it should work.”

I’ve used this item in my 43” tv and had not issue with it.

Please try again later.Probably but the first thing to verify is the mounting holes on the back of the tv will line up and the second thing is that you have the right wall mounting hardware and location. If mounting on sheetrock try to locate so one side is on a wall stud or use good toggle bolts. Also make sure that you have the correct length and diameter bolts for the back of the tv. The mounting hardware that comes with the mount has a large assortment but it did not have what was specified for my tv.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.1 inch difference wouldn’t be a problem. If the weight of the tv is more than 35lbs then I think there will be an issue. Yours is 18.7 lbs. I am sure that it’s totally fine.
