HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO FORMAT THE CARD? null

Only once. The camera will write over old video automatically. You really do not need endless hours of video of you driving down a highway. The purpose of this camera is to capture and SAVE a segment of time where you might have been in an accident or run a camera light or whatever. There is a button to push which will automatically SAVE one segment of a video. So it records, then writes to the card, then records again. AS it is recording, you can press a button to save THAT segment and it will not be written over by new video.
