Wire across the top of the windshield down the side of the dash behind the glovebox into the center console. Took me 15 min to finish and that was taking my time. Picture is decent quality. Takes up to 5 min video clips of the inside and outside. Mic can be turned off if you don't want to be recorded singing. Need to purchase SD card separately. Using a 128gb with mine. Best value in my opinion. A lot of other brands sell at much higher prices just cause the brand name.

Decent camera with one great feature
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Start off with the best part of this camera. The ability to rotate the angle of the rear-facing camera separately from the front-facing. That way I can have the front lens angled down enough without the back one facing too far up. Wild that this doesn't exist on any other camera I could find. Aside from this, everything is pretty standard. The image is just HD instead of 4K, but looks good enough. The angle is 140 degrees instead of 170 for others, but don't feel like I'm missing too much. Unit is a good compact size. Doesn't have higher end features like GPS or wi-fi to connect to your phone, but I'm able to live without. Rear-facing camera does record in color, which I saw some cameras didn't, and looked good at night too with infrared. Haven't actually needed to use the footage for anything yet, thankfully, but the review of it has produced a decent image with decent sound. Although it doesn't have the highest features, I'm happy with it and recommend it, especially with the ability to independently adjust the cameras.

Excellent camera that gets the job done!

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5I was trying out different cameras for my daughter who is new to the world of driving, so be on the lookout. I happened to see this camera on sale and so i decided to try it. Initially i was concerned as the front and rear cameras are built as one piece. I was concerned that someone’s head in the backseat for example would block the cameras view. We took a quick trip out of town so the timing was perfect to use the camera. I have a large suburban style SUV. I let the camera do it’s thing and when we got back i town i decided to review some footage. I was blown away with the clarity of both the front and rear cameras. Even car tags were clear when at a stop light. The rear was very clear and the rear window is tinted. I wish i had gotten two now that they are on sale. Excellent product and i don’t believe you’ll be disappointed.

Excellent frontal. Good side. Adequate rear.
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5One of the few cams that shows a wide enough view to capture outside footage of driver and passenger side windows. Very clear front day time and night. Clear enough to see street signs. Adequate coverage of rear. Useful detection modes as long as device receives power. Many Ford models for instance allow cigarette lighter/usb power all the time. Many Honda models for instance disable cigarette lighter/usb power when engine is off. A power brick is an ideal solution for 24-7 coverage for any vehicle. 128gb sd card capacity. No regrets. Seth Kolodny

Dual camera upgrade from previous version
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought this to go with the previous generation Insignia dashcam I bought two years ago. This became my primary front-facing dashcam, while my previous one became my dedicated rear-facing one. Despite recording from two lenses, preview on the device does not lag, and quality is good both ways. Main front quality is a touch better than last generation, and the driver-facing unit has infrared lighting, useful at night. The buttons are more tactile than the previous gen. Due to double recording, I did find my original 32 GB holding less overall time than last generation, I get under two hours now. The suction cup mount changed from previous, the material is quite sticky. While it does allow better adhesion, it can be painful to take down. I also found the twisting lock difficult to use at first, but some WD-40 to the interior suction joint fixed it right up. Overall it is a great unit, very useful if you want a dashcam that you can take down easily to move between cars.

Didn't get information that was promised
|Posted .Features
Quality5 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use2 out of 5I guess it is a good thing that I have a basic idea of how these dash cams are supposed to work because this one arrived with only quick start info and it was clear the camera does more than the quick start told. I asked fro more information before starting out on a long trip and was told I;d be contacted with complete manual before the scheduled start of the trip -- in fact I was told that several times by someone professing to be support -- and never did get anything. So, as far as I've been able to use the thing, it has worked fine. I'm still somewhat at sea on what the extra features are or do.

Q: Questionwhen the car is off for example on parkin lot, this camera is not recording???
Asked by pepe.
- A:Answer This camera turns off when the car is turned off. If left plugged into the power source and the user set the GPS and Motion detection settings, the device will record if your car is hit, or if someone walks within view of the camera.

Q: Questiondoes anybody know what the coffee cup or the other symbols are?
Asked by gclco.
- A:Answer Hi. I truly appreciate you taking some time to share your inquiry. The coffee cup symbol is the Driver fatigue alarm. It displays the icon and beeps once to remind you to rest. You can select 1h, 2h, 4h, or Off. If you do not stop for a break, the alarm is repeated every 30 minutes. We have a full schematic with all the icons of the Camera that we can send you. Just please e-mail us at https://www.insigniaproducts.com/contact-us and we will be happy to provide you with the full information. Alexander G. - Insignia Support

Q: QuestionIt is mentioned as a rear camera dash cam too ... does it mean I can use it to watch rear side view while parking and if yes where can be the rear camera fixed to car.
Asked by RAMS.
- A:Answer No, the rear view is just a small window in screen of the dashcam, and if you swap it out it still won't work because it takes an image of everything towards the back beginning at the camera, so your face and the inside of the car plus looking through the rear and side windows is what is seen.

Q: QuestionDoes the camera record both front and rear simultaneously, or must you choose one or the other?
Asked by BG.
- A:Answer Both simultaneously. you'll get a 'back' file and a 'front' file on the memory card
Answered by JohnMelbourneFL
Q: QuestionCan the camera be used during car parking (parking mode), and, if so, does the kit include required wiring (which one), any protection for car battery?
Asked by Frodo.
- A:Answer The camera will record as long as there is a power source that is active. This is a wired camera and the device must be plugged into a USB/lighter socket using the adapter that comes with the device. When your car is on, the camera records. If your car is off and the accessories are not provided power when off, the camera will turn off. If you would like protection while parked, i.e. footage of incidents, then you should turn on the feature for GPS activation and Motion. GPS will turn the camera on and record if the camera detects an impact. The Motion setting will turn the camera on and record when motion is detected in the camera view. Always ensure that you have a good battery and alternator, and check your vehicle manual regarding accessory power use. Footage is nice, but don't kill your battery by accident.

Q: QuestionHi, Does this dash cam need to be plugged in at all times in the USB port in order to run or can it run standalone if it's charged fully? Thanks!
Asked by joejoe.
- A:Answer Has to be always plugged in to use. No internal battery for standalone recording.
Answered by NateN
Q: QuestionDoes this dash cam require a subscription? Can it playback video on an android phone?
Asked by Jerome.
- A:Answer No, It does not require a subscription. It saves the video to a memory card that you will have to buy separate. So if your phone can pull video off a micro memory card you should be able to see it on your phone.
Answered by ECorken
Q: QuestionDoes this product record all the time or does it only start recording when it senses impact or harsh braking?
Asked by Rideshare101.
- A:Answer Records all the time and will save the recording when it senses an impact so when you review the videos you will see more than just the accident because if you hit a pothole for example, it will save that potion of the video.
