“We purchased the HDMI to RCA converter and hooked up our Fire TV. We have the video & can control the volume through the remote but there is no sound. We made sure the dolby digital was off & the TV sound is not muted. What else could be wrong?”

Yours seems to be defective as mine was. I had a constant buzz instead of the audio from the Fire TV stick. IMHO: They need better quality control of these units.
