- Answer You bought the wrong version of this adapter, you need RCA TO HDMI, not the other way around. they are at the store pretty much next to each other

QuestionCan I take the output(HDMI) of a 4k Cable set-top box and use the RCA into a HDD recorder? Since I can no longer record the shows I want to keep with a smart TV, I would like to try this and use the HDD recorder HDMI out to upscale to 1080P.

- Answer No it would not, output audio would come from an optical unless your tv has specific audio output other than the optical connector.
