• Hi Len, I bought this for similar reasons as you and as far as my experience with it, id say yes it will work. Just not with native os install software

• hardware wise, yes this works just fine, but you will need to have a downloaded software in your computer to copy it over, I recommend using Macrium Reflect, it just takes a few hours to copy everything over

• You should be able to use it for that purpose without a problem. Samsung has proprietary software that makes cloning the drive very easy
