Cable companies are switching to a digital service . You will have to have a company provided cable set-top-box to have access to these channles now.

I used to see cable TV straight into a plain old TV with an analog tuner. Nowadays, the signal from cable providers is typically incompatible with even the newest TV's with digital tuners. So if you still want cable, you'll need a so-called "set-top box" (which ironically can't sit on top of any modern TV set) from your cable provider. You can put up a conventional antenna and cut the cable, no box required provided you have modern TV's with digital tuners (anything made in the last several years.) Another choice is satellite, which has always required a box. If you have a good internet connection, you can watch movies with your choice of many streaming video services. Most if not all Blu-Ray players and Smart TV's have apps for those.
