“If AC/DC adapter won't hold the connection to player, what can be done to make connection stronger? It's two pronged. Is there something that can be sprayed onto connecting parts? It's hardly been used. Requires too many batteries to not use the adapter.”

Might be the connector on the power adaptor. Other thing may be that the Jack on the adaptor has spread out the contacts in the power socket.
