First thing that comes to mind is to change the batteries. The batteries which were in with my player lasted a very short time. I replaced them with 2 AA batteries, and it's fine now.

The rare earth mineral component of that glass WEARS OUT, and the CD player has to be discarded. This is true of your home DVD player and blu-ray player as well. I wish it weren't so!!
