“Bought my mom a portable CD player so she could listen to her old CDs. When we plug in the headphones ( we’ve tried 2 different ones) the power turns off. Any suggestions?”

Have not exoerienced this. Suggest you return and request replacement. I use my eat buds every night with no problem.
