• Audio books are the primary reason why I use it and it gets a lot of use! yes, it has a pause button.

• Yes, that is what I use it for. There is a pause button, which is handy because the player does not "remember" its place when turned off mid-play. I now jot down my place on a sticky note attached to player when I turn it off.
