I would not recommend enclosing an external harddrive (or SSD) in the case while backing up your laptop or any heavy use when you are transferring a lot of data to it. It will naturally get hot during this and enclosing it within a case will only make it hotter.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The case is for storing or transporting the drive to keep it safe from damage do to drops or weather and is not ment to be used when using the drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think it is best to remove it from the case. However, I don't think it will heat up that much to worry you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would just use this case to store your hard drive. Yes hard drives heat up while in use.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Like any piece of technology, if air access is reduced, it heats up, but it could work for a short period of time. If kept isolated in the case for a long time, the Hard drive’s performance could possibly slow down to compensate for the excessive heat.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.i have this case and the WD easystore portable HD, and although i have not tried to run it while in the case, it does not seem to heat up all that much when it is running...personally, i wouldn't keep it in the case when in use, partly to avoid that potential risk, but also because of the location of the cable port...seems like it could put some unnecessary stress on the cable...it's not hard to take it in and out, so why risk creating those possible issues? just my $.02
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I take my "WD - Easystore 5TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Black" out of it's case, when I use it to prevent over heating.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If your asking if there are openings for your cords to attach to the device you are connecting the hd to.... there are no specific openings. I guess you could leave it unzipped a tad. I personally just got mine but ib did use it today, & I just opened my case & left the hd in the case & connected it to my laptop & I did not notice that the device great up. I also was doing a fairly small backup, no more than an hour. I would personally take it out of the case if I was going to be leaving it running a backup all night long. I just wouldn't want to chance it since I wouldn't be around to monitor it. Perhaps someone else has experience in Long Extended times of use while being in the case. Sorry I couldn't be more detailed, I just usually tend to air on the side of caution when it comes to devices & heat. But the portable hd fits so nicely in this case that when you open it, it just stays there(of course on a flat service) someone did mention to me about applying a few strips of velcro to really hold it tightly when opening to use if I'm out and about for extra safety. Good luck! But I do love this case about! Wish I would of gotten it sooner.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Please remove the case while you are using your hard drive.
