Unfortunately, this is probably a non-answer. The answer probably depends on the TV and/or av equipment being used. Wireless headphones may get their signal when the sending portion of the headphones is connected to a TV headphone jack, audio composite connections or an optical audio out connection. With some TV's the sound is automatically muted when a headphone jack is inserted. The TV's I've had have had the ability to go to settings and choose the audio out option with the remote. Since the steps involved in doing this can change with each model of every brand of TV, you'll need to check your owner's manual for your TV's capabilities. Good luck.
