What capabilities must the tv have in order to use this sound bar ?

Please try again later.I would suggest thinking about it more in terms of whether this soundbar would be good for the size of the space where you are watching your 55" inch TV rather than whether it's good for that size TV. Hard to answer without knowing how big your room is, but I will say that this soundbar is not particularly loud, nor does it provide much base kick. If your TV is not in a large room and you connected a sub to this bar, it could very well suit your needs, but if your TV room is large I would probably go with something that has more power.
