Yes. It functioned properly with my Surface Book 1 (that did not have an HDMI port), and displayed clearly on my Samasung Smart TV. I did not experience any compatibility issues either. It comes with a mini disc for you to install the driver. I did not experience any issues installing the driver either. It explains in the manual that you do not need the disc because you can install the driver online. That should help with your iPad or tablet since it doesn't have a disc reader. My surface book didn't have a disc reader, but I had a portable one. I didn't experience any issues with that either. Hope this helps!
