My work laptop is a Dell that has one video output of HDMI and then the USB C output used for the port replicator and two USB 3.0 ports. I originally. Works finewith the replicator at work for two monitors but I wanted to use at home where I have two monitors. My monitors are VGA and DVI. I first purchased another product that supported VGA and HDMI out through USB 3.0. That didn't work so great, in part possibly due to me needing to install drivers that permissions do not allow. So I ended up getting this to get me HDMI output via the USB 3 port. I purchased a separate HDMI to DVI cable which I plug into my monitor (which doesn't have HDMI). Worked like a champ. My other HDMI actually also then goes to another monitor via HDMI to DVI (through an HDMI switch I use with my home laptop). Kind of a kluge but it really works. No issues with the display being responsive. My caveat is I just do work on it so Outlook Excel, Word, etc. No video. So I can't speak to the performance of that. I would easily buy another. And by the way it does come with an HDMI to DVI adaptor but the cable wasn't long enough for it to be of value.

My wife needs two monitors for her work and uses two different computers. One computer is connected to her monitors via the video inputs. Her second computer is connected to one monitor via HDMI. Her only remaining connection was HDMI to USB 3. I did no prior research on this. I wanted a quick fix for my wife. I asked if this adapter was available and an associate from the computer department brought me this. I thought the price seemed a little steep. I could have searched to for something less expensive, but we generally buy from Best Buy. They match any lower price (here, Insignia is a house brand). More important, if you follow their rules relating to returns, they take items back or replace them without question. We took this home, connected it, installed the driver, rebooted and immediately had two monitors running. Works perfectly. Problem solved. No driver nightmares. No hours spent adjusting windows settings. End of story.

Not bad - but not for graphics intensive apps.

I use several different laptops for making Graphic Design imagery as well as for providing visual aids for lectures and demonstrations. I was looking for a way to add an additional screen to my office setup, as well as a wired output for video support during lectures. Using a USB3 port seems like a great option - and it is, but not for all my needs. The converter works to get signal to my additional monitor, but the response is too laggy to allow use with anything other than simple writing apps, or web browsing when response time is not crucial. Its terrible for watching movies - the playback is always choppy and the sound out of sync. One way I have found to use this is for putting a demo on an external screen - when my audience doesn't need to interact with what they are seeing. So its okay in a lecture setting to send signal out to a house monitor, for example, but not to add a screen for use when editing in Photoshop or Illustrator.

This thing does what it says and provides a video out solution from USB converted to hdmi for easy connectivity. However, unless you are just projecting/showing still images with no sound, maybe look for the official display output device for your computer. I don't necessarily think it's a manufacturer error, as I've tried a few with less than stellar results. More so I think it's the driver or operating system. Mac and PCs that I've tried cannot send enough bandwidth through this thing to get smooth audio and video. For the record I've tried this on several USB3 and USB2 ports to no avail: all lagoon audio and video is barely crawling along. If you need the interface and have no choice, so be it. But if you have a choice, find another interface instead as the drivers for MAC/PC just don't seem to be there for ANY brand of USB-hdmi converters.

I bought this to have an additional HDMI monitor port for my laptop. I installed the driver, plugged the external monitor adapter into the USB 3.0 port and connected the monitor and it worked perfectly. I haven't tried this with a second monitor attached to the HDMI port on the computer so I can't say if there are any conflicts between the monitors and the computer. I also tried this with the USB 3.0 port multiplier and it worked there too without any evidence of heat buildup or disruption of the attached external pocket drives. If you are looking for an extra monitor port, give this a try.

Bought this to replace a Belkin mini display port to HDMI adapter that suddenly stopped working. My local Best Buy didn't have a similar replacement adapter in stock. So, despite being a bit suspicious about this adapter (I wasn't aware that a USB port could be used for video output), I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised that after installing the adapter and driver from the included CD-ROM (instructions are included for downloading the driver if you don't have a CD drive) my attached monitor display came right on. Have had it for about a month and have not experienced any issues.

I bought the converter at the suggestion of a customer service rep on the Best Buy floor. Glad I asked. I thought that I would just need an HDMI cable to run the laptop screen to the Smart TV for Dish service but the CSR told me that I would need the converter for the audio. There was no setup but I had to go into the computer to enable the "second display" to work. So I am using the converter to watch Dish Anywhere on the TV using the laptop to capture it. Works great, but of course there is no remote for the computer. Can't have everything.

I gave this adapter 4 stars instead of 5 because I had a problem with the port I was using on my laptop. I'm not certain if it was the adapter or the laptop. But I needed an adapter to set up a second monitor for my office desk. This worked okay in the first port, periodically the computer ran slow and I had a lot of hiccups. On a whim I switched ports and all of my issues resolved. I do run the mouse and keyboard out of the port that didn't work so I am not certain which is the problem. Works Great Now! I am very happy with it.
