• Cathjust choose the proper plug holes and make sure the slide piece is all the way back.

• Since this is an "adapter", you simply insert your electronic's plug into the top. The back of the adapter is what you insert into the wall outlet of whichever country you are operating in. I hope this answers your question. The entire adapter housing is plastic, but the holes are NOT covered. The part of the adapter that retracts is the rear of the adapter, which you select to match the country you are in.

• The covers move out of the way when the male plug is inserted. It does make the plug a little more difficult to insert and remove, but it works great.

• There are slides on the side of the plug that will retract the cover and allow you to plug it in
