• I bought this, and it wasn't compatible with my canon rebel t3i which is just a couple of years old. I ended up buying the insignia ring flash, it's for macro but works just fine for portraits.

• The Insignia TTL External Flash is compatible with Canon DSLR cameras that have a hot shoe connection.

• I think it is compatible with all the newer ones and would be surprised if it worked on the older ones either. I have a 600D which is ~5 years old and works just fine.
