Does the top glass come off ? Is it wood underneath ? null

No, its is a single sheet of tempered glass resting on 4 support points

There seem to be four silver rounds (think 50 cent piece size) that somehow hold the glass top down (I paid no attention to how it was put together, sorry) and after tapping underneath with my fingernail do not think it's wood as it has more of a tin sound.

It does not come off and is not wood underneath. There are 4 slabs of glass for the bottom, shelves, and top, which rest on rubber bumpers, but the top has 4 embedded metal plates for the screws to hold it down. The only wood is the body/frame/legs, which is one fold-open unit.
