how protective is this from drops? null

Strongly recommend screen covers and protective cases! The part that has caused the most trouble is where the controllers slide off and on the sides.

Not at all. The back is thin plastic and it does not cover the screen. This is not for protection, only to make handheld playing more comfortable.

I don't think it's made for protection more than it's made for a more comfortable fit in your hands, but I can see it help with protection only if it falls with the bottom side down

I think the console would just pop right out of the grip if dropped from standing height. It also will not protect the screen from damage.

I wouldn't count on this case for protection as much as for gripping convenience when playing it as a handheld unit. Though, if you drop it and it hits the grip portions, they are pretty thick and take a decent impact, any protection is better than no protection.

Your tablet with Joy-Cons attached will be held in using sides that go over. No much actual protection provided but will add girth to your grip.

I haven’t dropped it yet... *knocks on wood* but it does not look very protected. Top left and right corners are completely exposed (to allow access to L, ZL, R, ZR) and the entire front (screen, joy cons) are also not protected.

I would say it would protect it from a few feet dropping it on to carpet but I see it as more of protecting the joy cons from becoming detached from the screen then overall protection of the Nintendo switch

Not very protective at all. You would just save your switch from some back scuffs.

Not much protection. The front is wide open and the back is very thin to allow it into the dock. The grips are pretty big though, so that may help with drops. Still would recommend a screen protector.
