This adapter will only work with certain phones. The USB-C to HDMI specification that is required is called Alt DP mode. Most Android phones do not have this specification adopted for their USB-C Ports. Flagship models more often have this spec. Samsung phones/tables like the Galaxy S8, S9, S10 and S20 phones (and their variants like the Note 10) do have this specification. Google Pixel phones do not have this specification however, and this adapter will not work with them.

If your phone has a micro USB port, then you will need a micro USB to HDMI Adapter. A USB type C port is rectangular shaped that is rounded on each end, and a micro USB port is narrow and shaped like a trapozoid.
