Your HP Desktop has a VGA jack on the back of your computer that you can plug your vga monitor into which you should be using, the main pupose of this adapter is if someone needs a second monitor a good example is if they set up their computer to do karaoke their main monitor is used for their karaoke program and use this adapter on a second monitor for the karaoke words, but I don't see any problems using this adapter as your main monitor.
