How do I know when they are charged? null

When the light turns a solid blue you are ready to go!

when red light turns blue they are charged

In the middle of the controls, there's a little red light that comes on when charging. When the charging is complete, the light goes off.

the light on them changes color.

It will give a message saying: Low Battery if you are listening to it. If it dies out, when not in use, it will not connect to your phone or laptop.
